Karaoke CDG Discs

Karaoke discs are usually in cdg format. Karaoke cdg discs are simply an ordinary cd disc with a special subcode embedded onto the disc. It is this subcode which provides the on screen lyrics. In order to play a cdg disc, you need a cdg compatible player. All karaoke machines and systems will play karaoke cdg discs. However cdg's will only play the music in an ordinary cd player because the player is unable to read the subcode. Although cdg is becoming less popular as a karaoke medium, due to the increase in both mp3+g and karaoke DVD formats, it still remains the easiest way of obtaning karaoke music. I often get asked whether it is possibe to copy or back up cdg discs - well the answer is yes - you can copy cdg discs but you will need more than just the normal cd burning software.
